SILAFULLERENE
This molecular model of Si20, a synthetic semiconducting research molecule is constructed from old PCB blueprint sheets. Retrieved from the High Energy Physics Building at the University of Chicago, these materials were used in a laboratory in the eighties for printing circuit diagrams.
The soft flexing materials create a delicate balance between tension and compression. Applying force causes the sphere structure to collapse into a pile of tetrahedrons, while applying tension can return it back to its rigid state.
